January 24th misc updates

It's been very busy at the Igloo this week with multiple trades on site. Hvac, electrical, plumbing and finally the insulation has arrived. Hmmm I sense heat in the near future. Took some shots to give Dave & Fran and idea of what stage the house is at.

Took a shot from the road by marina to show how the house blends in and hardly noticeable.

Well maybe it is highly visible!

Vaulted ceilings in Music room are tough to show
Vaulted ceilings above the foyer
I managed to check owner of flooring companies clip board and I sense flooring is expensive when I saw the clip.
The owner of the local flooring company wanted to come again Sat to confirm all measurements. Now not sure if he was going to a Reggae concert, jogging, or snowmobiling afterwords and forgot to ask.
Music room ceiling
Locating spots for pot lights
Surround system in Master is all pre-wired
View from far corner in kitchen looking north west
Dining room doors came in and it is out of this world Just a beautiful door.
Note small windows on top which match up with great room windows.
Tough to see view to lake in photo but very impressive as I can imagine sitting there watching the lakeside activities
Pot lights have been added to the music room and had to buy ones which install on 45 and strong enough to light a ceiling 2 stories high. Total 4 over room. There are 2 more which are not shown but are directed from foyer ceiling into room. You can actually see one at the top of the shot
To add romance to the master we came up with speakers above the bed Hmmmmm (see the blue  areas)
Yes surround sound should be soothing
Shower base installed
This is from upper landing bending down trying to show pot lights in music room and you see 4
Basement full of insulation
Temporary landing for electrician to install boxes for the 3 wall sconces in the stairwell.
One on either side and one under the window on the wall, boxes are visible
Chris wanted me in a shot and yes had my pen and paperwork with me
Two of the 3 insulated garage doors have been installed but I will chat to Dave about buying a very short car so it gets in
Motor is mounted off to the side and so so quiet.
I think Dave will be pleased with Glenn's choice of opener.
Shows the light when doors are operated
Garage door lake side and it is a drive through garage

Grooming The Lake Front Trees

The area we have been working in the fall showing the limbs we are working on

One thing Dave & Fran wanted when building this house was a view to the Lake. Well the elevation has certainly achieved that but now your so high the trees came into play. The trees were large so great care was taken as the first one which ran from right to left was notched underneath for a directional fall but never had time to cut it on top as it snapped right off. Center of tree and base was rotten and hollow. The same applies to another which went out over the lake. Now we came to the real large one that extended way out over the water. Dave wanted to maintain half of it but when they half was cut off the pressure snapped it at the base as well. The base was full of saw dust and rotten wood with large white grubs having a feast. I mean many grubs anywhere from 1 1/2 - 2" long. There is one more to shorten and we are trying to cut it off about 1/2 way up and let it grow branches from there.
Looking out to the lake from between Dave and Larry
From the new crawlspace where garage door will be
The big one which has to be topped /12 way down to were it snapped last spring
walked out on the lake and looking back, the tree in the middle was cleaned up of sucker branches but staying up
from the lake and tree far right is not Dave's
Walked out to approx location of Dave dock in the summer
Looking out to lake from my place and yes an ice fishing city out there
Summer time shows tree on left but now a lot of those branches taken away for  view. Most of the trees on the on the right have fallen once they started to be cut due to rot

Electrical in the IGLOO

As you tell it's now called the IGLOO. It's freezing in there as no heat yet and today for example we have strong north winds off the lake ice so -27C if not colder. We have had -30 to -35 for a few days so IGLOO seems appropriate.
So we are now in the electrical stage, pot light locations and switches etc etc. Decided to drop over today and take few shots for Dave& Fran. I did pass the Brass Monkey on the road and even he said screw it, it's far too COLD!

Ensuite with corner cut at 45 angle, door is to the left of yellow stool
Landing upstairs is now twice as wide and this was taken from main bathroom door way
Trying to show landing area and this was from inside of front bedroom
Looking down to music room from landing, I could have go closer to edge but NO railing
Looking up to landing from center of music room
Looking up from the front door so nice view once you enter the residence.
The stairs are only temporary for trades to climb up.
Two pot lights in landing ceiling with skylight
Seven pot lights in kitchen area and this is looking South.
Three for each bank of cupboards and one in the center which will almost be over where Dave stands to do the dishes.
Great room showing pot lights and area for fireplace
From lakefront wall showing front door and what will be in the bulk head separating great room from kitchen/dining room
Bulk head contains
Hallway looking up to round window
South west room in crawl space
Closet going on this wall with entrance on other side of studded wall
Looking south to north showing location of garage door into crawl space
Looking south east to north west showing future work shop and storage area
Sowing south west room and entrance in house from garage.
